After finding out that her family had allergies and then discovering she herself was gluten intolerance, Mel decided to embark on a new journey as a chef and created the Alkaine Café.

Being a gluten free and vegan café catering to those who need a place to eat who understand their needs has been a difficult start.  Listen to Mel as she walks us through her challenges of finding a qualified chef who understands her customers needs and how to cater for them, becoming Coeliac accredited and growing her business by working on it instead of in it.
