Elite junior hammer thrower Alex De Silver discusses his training and what it takes to make it as a professional athlete.
Join this podcast speaking with Alex De Silver, a 17 year old professional Athlete ‘third’ generation legendary Australian thrower. Alex shares his journey about being involved in a lot of different types of sports before finding his niche.
From the age of 4, Alex was participating in a lot of different sports before discovering athletics at the age of 6. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Alex discovered his passion for throwing and from age 12 made this his focus. Alex’s commitment saw him achieve an under 16 state record and at one point making the top 50 throwers in the world.
As with many sports now, the training for athletics has changed immensely over the years and track and field is no different. It now requires various forms of training such as strength training, coordination abilities and mental support and guidance from coaches.
Alex shares the different components of Athletics in both schools and the governing bodies both in Australia and Internationally including what safety regulations are required when preparing the equipment for both events and training.
